Pulley Pricing Plans + Large Files

Hi guys-

We’re  a record label and use Big Cartel for our shop and we love using Pulley to do our digital sales. We sell 320kps mp3 zip files of all our releases through Pulley, but we don’t do a ton of digital sales through Pulley, but it’s still very useful for 5-10 sales per month. Our back catalog is big and we’ve reached our hosting limit on Pulley and our sales simply don’t warrant a $50 a month charge - Everytime I have a new release come out I have to remove another older one for sale from our site to make room, it’s quite a hassle and is crippling from the Big Cartel end..I’m considering moving all our digital sales to Bandcamp because of this, but I really love Pulley and want to stick here. Are there any plans to let us either self-host our files, or perhaps choose an option of giving pulley a percentage of sales, or perhaps a new product plan around $25 per month with more storage space available and less slots for products? Please consider this - it would REALLY help us (and many other people I’m sure)

Thanks!!

    Hi Aaron,

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback. Since Pulley is still a new service, pricing is still one of those areas we’re still keeping an open mind about, especially when it comes to larger files like yours.

Self-hosting comes with a number of security and user-experience concerns, so I’m not sure that’s a route we’ll go. However, we’ve heard from a number of people that would prefer the percentage of sales billing, so that’s something we may take a stronger look at in the future.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

I’d like to second this. I just began using PulleyApp to sell digital fine art downloads and with just 16 products (yes, they are compressed files) I’m already using 267.436 MB of the 750 MB plan. Each product I list that I sell averages about 20MB each.

I hope a new pricing scheme is worked out soon for those of us selling larger files who won’t have as many products.

With the 750MB plan I could have 150 products but with the file size of each of my products I’ll be lucky to use 1/4 of the allowed products with the plan you provide.

I love the service though, and how I can integrate it seamlessly into my BigCartel shop at http://handmadecloud.com

Thanks for the easy to use tools on both BigCartel and here on PulleyApp.

any update or further thoughts from pulley, matt? would be great to see a change in the near future - i’m really hurting trying to balance product size and pulley pricing plans...mass storage is so cheap these days i really don’t think a $50 per month charge is warranted for that amount of space.

    Hi Aaron,

Nothing new to report just yet, but to clarify the storage charge – yes, file storage prices are very affordable, but our prices cover storage and unlimited bandwidth. Bandwidth is where it gets really expensive for larger files, so that’s why those plans are more expensive.

The reason we built bandwidth into the price was because we felt it was easier to understand a flat-rate charge per month as opposed to a fluctuating bandwidth charge, and for many sellers this is more affordable. However, we’re still researching a better balance for those sellers with large files and a lesser volume of sales.
